In this study I examine how upper secondary school students consume news, their attitude toward different types of news and news platforms, and how they evaluate the credibility of the news they encounter. The result is analysed using the three-step-model and the source-criticism-questions what, who, how and why. The study is a qualitative study, based on interviews with six upper secondary school students.
The result shows that the students most often consume news through social media which happens unintentionally most of the time, as news reaches them rather than them actively seeking it out. The result also shows that they feel more trust towards news on tv and in the papers rather than social media, despite using social media more to consume news. For the students to trust the news they encounter both the sender and the content are the most important factors they evaluate.
