School Health Service : Primary and secondary school strudents' self-assessed satisfaction with the services school helath care offers in a municipality in southern Sweden (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: The School Health Service (EMI) within Swedish schools helps students achieve educational goals through health promotion work and illhealth prevention. Systematic quality work generates quality of care. No present research shows how students perceives EMI. Purpose: To describe students’ assessment of satisfaction with the activities offered by EMI operations in primary and secondary schools. Method: A cross-sectional study with quantitative design. 141 students in grade 4 (younger age group) and grade 7 in primary school and grade 1 in secondary school (older age group) in three municipal schools in one municipal in southern Sweden estimated their satisfaction with EMI. Data was analyzed in the statistical program SPSS. Chi two-tests were used for group comparisons. Results: Overall impression of EMI was good. Availability, respect/treatment, information/knowledge, inclusion/involvement, emotional support, continuity/coordination was stated good. The younger age group could more often identify the school nurse (p <0.001), felt that they could visit EMI when needed (p<0,05), and felt safe with EMI (p <0.05) compared to the older age group. Conclusions: Students' were satisfied with EMI operations. Differences in how the age groups perceived Accessibility and Emotional Support emerged. No gender differences were detected. Research is needed to evaluate and improve EMI nationally.
