Syftet med studien är att belysa hur verksamma lärare i mellanstadiet arbetar för att främja och utveckla elevers motivation att läsa samt hur de ser på motivationens betydelse för läsutvecklingen.

Studien kommer att besvara följande frågeställningarna: Vilka faktorer anser lärarna påverkar elevers läsmotivation? Vilka arbetssätt anser lärare lärarna främjar elevers läsmotivation och läsutveckling? Hur beskriver lärare förhållandet mellan läsmotivation och läsutveckling?

Den här kvalitativa studien utgår ifrån halvstrukturerade kvalitativa samtalsintervjuer med lärare i årskurs 4–6. Studiens teoretiska utgångspunkt utgår från det sociokulturella perspektivet samt motivationsteorierna: inre och yttre motivation. Resultatet visar att det finns ett tydligt samband mellan elevers läsmotivation och läsutveckling. Framträdande faktorer som påverkar elevers läsmotivation är lärarens betydelse, intresse för texten, digitala hjälpmedel i undervisningen samt den fysiska läsmiljön. Arbetssätt som visar sig påverka elevers läsmotivation är högläsning, tystläsning, gruppläsning och boksamtal. 

The purpose of the study is to illustrate how teachers in middle schools working to promote and develop pupils reading motivation as well as how they view motivations importance for reading development.

The study will answer the following questions: Which factors do teachers think affects pupils' reading motivation? Which methods of teaching do teachers consider encouraging for pupils' reading motivation and reading development? How do teachers describe the relationship between reading motivation and reading development?

This qualitative study is based on semi-structured qualitative interview with middle school teacher in year 4-6. This study theoretical basis is based on the sociocultural perspective as well as the motivation theories: the internal and external motivation. The result shows that there is a clear connection between pupils' reading motivation and reading development.  Dominating factors that affects the pupils reading motivations are the importance of the teacher, interest in the text and digital tools in class as well as the physical learning environment. Different working methods that proves to affect pupils' reading motivation are reading aloud, silent reading, groups reading and discussions of literature.
