Nature assisted therapy against burnout syndrome - a scoping review. (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Title Nature-based rehabilitation against burnout syndrome - a scoping review.

Aim: The aim was to describe Nature based rehabilitation (NBR) with focus on stress and burnout-related symptoms. Two questions were asked: What does NBR mean and - how does it affect people suffering from stress- ore/and burnout related symptoms?

Method: A literature compilation in form of a scoping review were used in this work, consisting of scientific articles and published materials concerning NBR and stress-related symptoms.

Result: In the study two main themes were identified with sub-themes and sub-categories. Nature exposure was the first main theme with two sub-themes in the form of garden therapy and forest therapy, these respond to where you practice NBR. The second theme was varying environmental qualities where instead there are two sub-categories that describe the participants experience of NBR in social and cultural aspects, as well as physical and emotional aspect, which were linked by a synergistic effect towards each other

Conclusion: Nature exposure in different environments was a significant part of NBR. The most important constituents for NBR participants was to meet persons with the same problems, the environment, and the caregivers, without these parts the rehabilitation would only have been passive care. The feeling of belonging to a group and the caregiver’s overall responsibility of the rehabilitation gave the participants time to concentrate on their own recovery without worrying about outside demands.
