Bakgrund: Diabetes mellitus typ 2 är en folksjukdom som innebär att den som är drabbad har insulininsufficiens vilket bidrar till att höga värden av glukos finns i blodet. Komplikationer kan förekomma vid misskött diabetes. Sjukdomen kan behandlas både icke farmakologisk och eller farmakologiskt. Personcentrerad omvårdnad skapar samarbete mellan patienter och sjuksköterskor där vården har patienterna i fokus. Syftet var att beskriva hur patienter med diabetes mellitus typ 2 upplever sitt dagliga liv. Metod: En litteraturöversikt av kvalitativa artiklar skriven med induktiv ansats. Genom artikelsökning i databaserna Medline och CINAHL framkom 15 vetenskapliga artiklar som analyserades i fem steg utifrån Fribergs analys. Resultat: Analysen resulterade i tre teman: Livsstilsförändringar i det dagliga livet, framtiden med diabetes typ 2 samt närståendes betydelse i det dagliga livet. Patienterna upplevde att de nya livsstilsförändringarna var svåra att leva upp till. De upplevde oro över framtiden, ärftliga faktorer samt att avlida till följd av sjukdomen. Stöd från närstående gjorde det lättare att anpassa sig till den nya livsstilen. Slutsats: Informationen om sjukdomen upplevdes inte tillräcklig för patienterna. Personcentrerad omvårdnad är viktigt för att få ökad kunskap om sin sjukdom. Kunskap skapar förutsättningar för att hantera sjukdomen och motivation till livsstilsförändringar genom egenvård. 

Background: Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a disease of insulin deficiency which contributes to high levels of glucose in the blood. Complications of this disease, untreated can occur. Treatment can be both non-pharmacological and or pharmacological. With the help of person-centred care, patients and health personnel, together, find health care methods best suited for the patient. Aim was to describe how patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 experience their daily life. Method: A literature overview of qualitative articles was conducted with an inductive approach. All found on two databases, Medline and CINAHL. 15 scientific articles emerged from this study which were then analysed using Friberg’s five-step analysis. Results: Three themes surfaced from the analysis of the results: Lifestyle changes in daily life, the future with diabetes type 2 and family support in daily life. Patients’ experienced that their lifestyle changes were difficult to accomplish. Future concerns of the disease were of it later being hereditary or potentially leading to disease related death. Patients that experienced support from family found it easier to adapt to their new lifestyle. Conclusion: Many patients experienced a lack of information. Person-centred care is vital for patients to enhance the understanding of their disease. Knowledge creates prerequisites to control their disease and even be motivated for upcoming lifestyle changes through self-care.
