2021 (Swedish)Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesisAlternative title
The gifted student - how are they identified by the school? : A questionnaire about identification and adaption with teachers in primary school. (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to investigate how teachers identify and challenge gifted students. The study is based the process model of Lee Shulman for teachers’ planning. The main method for collecting data has a quantitative approach by the use of a questionnaire, which also been complemented by some questions with a qualitative approach. The respondents are teachers within the grades F-3. The result highlights some flaws with teaching gifted students. Several of the respondents mentioned that they felt insecure due to the lack of knowledge and experience of teaching gifted student. Those respondents that felt comfortable with teaching gifted student either relied on a more comprehensive educational background or previous knowledge or experience of it. The conclusion is that the model of Lee Shulman is difficult to comply to when there is some uncertainty about how to identify and challenge gifted students.
