I dagens samhälle är eftergymnasial utbildning mer eller mindre ett måste för de flesta branscher. Det skapar i sin tur allt högre krav på att elever lämnar skolan med en god, etablerad läsförmåga. Syftet med studien är därmed att redogöra för hur ett urval av lärare i årskurs F–3 beskriver sin undervisning med läsning och barnlitteratur för att främja elevernas läsutveckling. Genom följande frågeställningar besvaras syftet: Hur beskriver lärarna sin undervisning med läsning och barnlitteratur? Samt Vilka möjligheter och utmaningar finns det i att använda barnlitteratur i undervisningen enligt lärarna? I den här studien har fem verksamma lärare från förskoleklass till årskurs 3 intervjuats. För att uppnå studiens syfte har en kvalitativ metod använts genom semistrukturerade intervjuer och resultatet har analyserat utifrån ett sociokulturellt perspektiv, tidigare forskning samt styrdokument. Ur ett rikligt resultat framgår det att läsningen är av hög prioritet men att lärarens engagemang och attityd kring barnlitteratur är av betydelse för att skapa en lustfylld undervisning. Slutsatsen är att litteratur är något som bör upplevas tillsammans med andra. 

In today’s society post-secondary education is more or less a must for most lines of work. In turn, this creates even higher demands on students to leave school with a good and established ability to read. The aim of the study is to account for how a number of teachers in grades F–3 describe their teaching with reading and children’s literature to promote the students’ reading development. The aim will be answered by the following questions: How do the teachers describe their teaching with reading and children’s literature? And also, What opportunities and challenges lie in using children’s literature in their education according to the teachers? For this study, five active teachers in grades F–3 have been interviewed. To achieve the aim of the study a qualitative method has been used through semistructured interviews and the result has been analyzed from a sociocultural perspective, previous research as well as the curriculum.  From a plentiful result, it become clear that reading is top priority, regarding children’s literature but the teacher’s engagement and attitude regarding children’s literature is of importance to create enjoyable teaching. The conclusion is that literature is something that should be experienced together with others.
