A variation-theoretical analysis of precedence rules in teaching materials (English)
Abstract [sv]

Matematik är ett ämne som har en tydlig särställning i den svenska skolan. Ett vanligt förekommande verktyg i den svenska matematikundervisningen är läroboken. Den styr till stor del vilket innehåll som behandlas i undervisningen. 

Denna studie undersöker på vilket sätt läromedel erbjuder lärande av prioriteringsreglerna. Studien utgår från både en kvantitativ analys och en kvalitativ analys med inspiration av variationsteorin. Utifrån variationsteorin har studien undersökt på vilket sätt en systematisk variation och invarians erbjuds i läromedlen. Två olika tryckta läromedelserier i årskurserna 4–6 har granskats. 

I analysen har det framkommit att det erbjuds en variation och invarians i uppgifter relaterade till prioriteringsreglerna. I de granskade läromedlen, har även en systematisk variation identifierats mellan uppgifter. Denna systematik av variation har visat sig förekomma i endast ett fåtal uppgifter där lärande erbjudits av prioriteringsreglerna. I analysen har det även identifierats uppgifter som innehållit en systematik men som inte tolkats erbjuda lärande av prioriteringsregeln enligt variationsteorin. 

Abstract [en]

Mathematics is a subject with a special position in the Swedish school. A frequent used tool in Swedish mathematics teaching is the textbook. To large extent it governs the content that is taught. This study I investigate in what way teaching materials like textbooks offer learning of the precedence rules. The study is based on both a quantitative analysis and a qualitative analysis with inspiration from the variation theory of learning. Based on this theory, the study has examined in what way systematic variation with variation and invariance are offered in the textbooks. Two different Swedish teaching material series in grades 4–6 have been examined. 

 

In the analysis, it has emerged that a variation and invariance is offered in tasks related to the precedence rules. In the reviewing teaching materials, it has also emerged that a systematic variation and invariance between tasks has been identified. This system of variation has been shown to occur in only a few tasks where learning has been offered by the precedence rules. The analysis has also identified tasks that contains a system of variation but are not interpreted to offer learning of the prioritization rule according to the variation theory.
