Bakgrund: Palliativ vård är en lindrande vård med fokus på livskvalité som erbjuds när bot inte längre är möjlig. Studier gällande arbetsterapi inom palliativ vård visar på vikten av fortsatt delaktighet i aktivitet för personer i livets slut. Det arbetsterapeutiska interventionsfokuset skiftar i takt med att sjukdomen påverkar personen och dess möjlighet till aktivitet. Arbetsterapeutens insats för att möjliggöra fortsatt delaktighet i aktivitet hos personer i livets slut kan därför ses som otydlig. Syfte: Att med arbetsterapeutisk teori beskriva arbetsterapeuters uppfattning om aktivitetsbalans hos personer som får specialiserad palliativ vård. Metod: Studien genomfördes som en kvalitativ intervjustudie med deduktiv design och data analyserades med riktad innehållsanalys utifrån den arbetsterapeutiska ValMO-modellen. Tolv arbetsterapeuter intervjuades. Resultat: Data kategoriserades efter ValMO-modellens delar Aktivitetstriaden, Värdetriaden och Perspektivtriaden. Detta visade att aktivitetsbalansen under sjukdomsförloppet ansågs påverkas av det dynamiska samspelet mellan person/omgivning/uppgift, fick olika dimensioner av värdeupplevelser och skedde i perspektivet av aktuell livsfas på ett sätt unikt för varje individ. Konklusion och signifikans: Att kunna beskriva hur aktivitetsbalans påverkas vid livets slut med stöd i arbetsterapeutisk teori tydliggör betydelsen av att stötta till delaktighet i aktivitet även vid livets slut och visar på professionens bidrag till en personcentrerad palliativ vård. 

Background: Palliative care is a care service focusing on quality of life, offered when a cure is no longer possible. Studies regarding occupational therapy in palliative care show the importance of continued occupational participation for people at the end of life. The focus of occupational therapy intervention shifts as the disease affects the person and their ability to be active. The occupational therapist's intervention to enable continued occupational participation for people at the end of life can therefore be seen as unclear. Aim: To use occupational therapy theory to describe occupational therapists' perceptions of occupational balance in people receiving specialist palliative care. Methods: The study was conducted as a qualitative interview study with a deductive design and the data were analysed using directed content analysis based on the occupational therapy model the ValMO model. Twelve occupational therapists were interviewed. Results: Data were categorized according to the ValMO model's Activity Triad, Value Triad and Perspective Triad. This showed that occupational balance was considered to be influenced during the course of illness by the dynamic interaction between person/environment/task, was given different dimensions of value experiences and occurred in the perspective of the current life stage in a way unique to each individual. Conclusion and Significance: Being able to describe how occupational balance is affected at the end of life with the support of occupational therapy theory clarifies the contribution of the profession and demonstrates the importance of supporting occupational participation also at the end of life in person-centred palliative care.
