Abstract [en]

Introduction: Parents of children with disabilities have a higher participation in caring occupations and supporting efforts aiming the child compared to other parents. Studies show that these parents have worse physical and mental health and occupational balance compared to other parents.

Aim: The aim was to describe health, everyday occupations and occupational balance among parents to children with disabilities ages 0-18 years.

Method: The chosen method was a scoping review where 9 articles publiced between 2015 and 2022 were included. The method was based on the steps according to Arksey & O’Malley (2005).

Results: The results showed that parents of children with disabilities suffers from stress, poor health and occupational imbalance to a greater extent compared to other parents. The results also show that these parents have a low participation in health promoting occupations and that there is a connection between participation in health promoting occupations and general health.

Conclusions: The conclusion was that the parents care of children with disabilities can effect health and occupational balance in a negativ way. This could indicate an increased need of a interpersonal perspective in the view of occupational balance, since that considers how different aspects influences each other.
