Denna studie belyser hur viktig dokumentationen är för att kunna utveckla elevernas kunskaper i läs-och skrivundervisningen. Dokumentationen visar vad lärarna ska arbeta vidare med för att anpassa läs- och skrivundervisningen utifrån elevernas förutsättningar. Syftet med studien är att få insikt i hur lärare genom dokumentation kan förbättra läs- och skrivundervisningen i årskurs 1-3. För att kunna besvara syftet används följande forskningsfrågor: Hur kan dokumentation av läs- och skrivundervisning i årskurs 1-3 genomföras, användas och utvärderas för att förändra och vidareutveckla lektionsinnehållet? Vad anser lärare vara viktigt att dokumentera för att förbättra läs- och skrivundervisningen? Studien utgår från ett sociokulturellt perspektiv där utgångspunkten är den proximala utvecklingszonen. Kvalitativ metod används i studien där sex grundskollärare intervjuas genom semistrukturerade intervjuer. Empirin har därefter analyserats utifrån en tematisk analys. Resultatet visar att det är viktigt med kontinuerlig dokumentation där lärarna ger eleverna “allmänna råd” för att komma vidare i sin läs-och skrivutveckling till exempel stor bokstav och punkt i slutet av en mening. Det framkommer även i studien att materialet Legilexi och Skolverkets material är bra komplement till dokumentationen, lärarna får syn på vad eleverna kan och vad lärarna kan utveckla i sin undervisning genom att arbeta med dessa material. 

This study highlights how important documentation is to be able to develop students' knowledge in reading and writing instruction. The documentation enables what the teachers are to work on further in order to adapt the reading and writing instruction based on the students' conditions. The purpose of the study is to gain insight into how teachers through documentation can improve reading and writing instruction in grades 1-3. In order to be able to answer the purpose, the following research questions are used: How can documentation of reading and writing instruction in years 1-3 be implemented, used and evaluated to change and further develop the lesson content? What do teachers consider important to document in order to improve reading and writing instruction? The study is based on a socio-cultural perspective where the starting point is the proximal development zone. Qualitative method is used in the study where six primary school teachers are interviewed through semi-structured interviews. The empirics have then been analysed on the basis of a thematic analysis. The results show that it is important to have continuous documentation where the teachers give the students "general advice" to move forward in their reading and writing development, for example capital letter and full stop at the end of a sentence. It also appears in the study that the material Legilexi and the National Agency for Education's material is a good complement to the documentation, the teachers get an idea of what the students can and what the teachers can develop in their teaching by working with these materials.
