The societal gaps tend to become increasingly extensive and visible, including through the segregation that has today been normalized in Swedish society. In this study, the focus has been on housing segregation with a special approach to the Råslätt residential area in Jönköping. The purpose of the study has been to investigate how young adults in Råslätt between the ages of 18 and 25 experience living in an area characterized by housing segregation and the impact of housing segregation on their living opportunities and the affiliation they have to the area. The study presents theories such as "neighborhood effects" and "us and them", both of which are theories that reflect challenges that can be encountered in areas where housing segregation is permeated. The themes that emerged were: experiences of the residential area and the neighborhood, experiences and feelings regarding Råslätt and the effects of housing segregation on young people. Through semi-structured interviews with five young adults living in Råslätt, the study has shown that Råslätts respondents face most of the challenges precisely because of their residential area, including the media's black painting of the area. All respondents state that they feel secure in the area, but experience that some of the problems highlighted by outsiders do not correspond with the area, the respondents' reality or everyday life. The study also presents views from the respondents on what responsible social actors can do to eliminate the varying types of problems encountered in the area in connection with housing segregation.
