"It is actually three persons who died" : A qualitative text analysis of FIFA’s external communication concerning social matters in connection with the World Cup in Qatar 2022 (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to examine how FIFA’s external communication concerning social matters in connection with the World Cup in Qatar 2022. To achieve this purpose a qualitative text analysis of FIFA’s external communication regarding the world cup in Qatar 2022 was conducted because this study sought to provide a more in-depth picture of the organization's communication. FIFA’s own communication was chosen because previous studies have shown that it is mainly through their own channels that sports organizations communicate social work. The results of the study showed that FIFA is trying to minimize its own responsibility for social issues in the country. This appeared in their communication by pointing out that their ability to directly influence decisions concerning social situations is minimal. Instead, their communication hopes to highlight their social engagement in other parts of the world in order to appear more engaged in social issues.
