Denna studie handlar om mäns våld mot kvinnor. Syftet är att, via kvinnors självbiografiska berättelser, bidra med kunskap om kvinnors upplevelser av våld som utövas av en närstående man. En kvalitativ tematisk analys har använts för att uppnå studiens syfte.  Den tematiska analysen resulterade i tre huvudteman samt flera underteman. Det första huvudtemat är ”blandade känslor” med fyra underteman kärlek och passion, förvirring, skuldbelägger sig själv och hopp om förändring. Det andra huvudtemat är ”våld” med psykiskt våld och fysiskt våld som underteman. Det tredje huvudtemat är ”socialt stöd” som följs av tre underteman informellt stöd, formellt stöd och uteblivet stöd. Normaliseringsprocessen av Lundgren (2012) och våld som en social process av Hydén (1995a) har använts för att kunna tolka och förstå kvinnornas berättelser. Studiens forskningsfrågor kunde besvaras med stöd av teorier, tidigare forskning, självbiografierna och den tematiska analysen. Resultatet visar att de kvarhållande mekanismerna är komplexa och kvinnorna stannar i en våldsam relation på grund av att de upplever blandade känslor. Våldet som kvinnorna utsätts för är främst psykiskt och fysiskt våld som ökar successivt. Kvinnorna beskriver att de haft olika former av socialt stöd men även att de blivit nekade stöd. Stödet har funnits under tiden de var våldsutsatta men även efter separationen. 

This study is about men's violence against women. The aim is to, through women's autobiographical stories, contribute with knowledge about women's experiences of violence perpetrated from a man that they have a close relationship with. A qualitative thematic analysis has been used to achieve the purpose of the essay. The thematic analysis resulted in three main themes as well as several sub-themes. The first main theme is "mixed feelings" with four sub-themes of love and passion, confusion, blaming herself and hope for change. The second main theme is "violence" with psychological violence and physical violence as sub-themes. The third main theme is "social support" which is followed by three sub-themes of informal support, formal support, and lack of support. The normalization process of Lundgren (2012) and violence as a social process by Hydén (1995a) have been used to be able to interpret and understand women's stories. The study´s research questions could be answered with the support of theories, previous research, autobiographies, and thematic analysis. The result shows that the detention mechanisms are complex, and the women stay in a violent relationship due to the fact that they experience mixed emotions. The violence to which women are subjected is mainly psychological and physical violence, which increase gradually. The women describe that they have had different forms of social support but also that they have been denied support. The support was there during the time they were exposed to violence but also after the separation.
