Occupational therapy interventions in school for children with ADHD- a scoping review (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Introduction: Children with ADHD experience difficulties in the environment they find themselves in, mainly school. The school experience is challenging and performance is worse than expected. Inability to sit still and maintain the ability to concentrate leads to difficulties in performing academically. The environment at school is constantly changing and affects the participation of children with ADHD. Aim: The purpose of the study is to identify and map occupational therapy interventions for children with ADHD. Method: A scoping review was used to identify relevant literature. Relevant databases were selected and inclusion and exclusion criteria were used to select the most relevant articles. Results: In the result, four themes were identified which are occupational therapy interventions focusing on "Motor skills", "Cognitive skills", Concentration, sedentary and academic skills", "Play and social skills". Occupational therapy interventions contribute with increased participation, improved cognitive strategies, improvement of concentration and academic results in school. Conclusions: The conclusion is that occupational therapy interventions at school are important for children with ADHD. Occupational therapy interventions lead to efficiency, participation, and accessibility. Significance: Motivation, attention, academic performance, and activities were improved with the help of occupational therapy interventions.
