Syftet med studien är att bidra med kunskaper om varför vissa lärare väljer att bedriva utomhuspedagogik medan andra inte gör det. Studien har två frågeställningar varav den ena berör vad lärare i grundskolans årskurs 4–6 ser för möjligheter och hinder med utomhuspedagogik. Den andra frågeställningen berör vad den geografiska platsen och dess resurser har för betydelse för utomhuspedagogikens plats i undervisningen, inom de naturorienterande ämnena. Studien grundar sig i ett sociokulturellt perspektiv med inslag av pragmatismen där ett lärande sker i ett sammanhang och språket har en betydande roll. Studien har genomförts genom kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer där sex legitimerade grundskollärare med inriktning mot de naturorienterande ämnena har intervjuats. Data som samlats in har färgkodats och kategoriserats utifrån framkomna teman. Resultatet visar att lärare i årskurs 4–6 vill bedriva mer utomhuspedagogik än vad de gör i nuläget. Samtliga lärare i studien ser flera möjligheter med utomhuspedagogiken där kunskapsinhämtning, verklighetsförankring, inkludering och sinnesupplevelser är några av de som framkommer i resultatet. Majoriteten av lärarna i studien bedriver, trots detta, utomhuspedagogik i en sparsam omfattning. Lärarna i studien anser att det finns flertalet hinder som står i vägen för att utomhuspedagogiken ska kunna få ta en större plats i dagens grundskola. Tillgången till närmiljön lyfts upp som en god förutsättning för att utomhuspedagogiken ska tillämpas men också som ett hinder ifall skolan ligger på en plats där tillgången till natur är begränsad.  Brist på lärarresurser, riskfaktorer, tidsaspekten och elevers klädsel är andra hinder som lyfts fram i resultatet. Sammantaget är samtliga lärare i studien positivt inställda till utomhuspedagogiken och menar, trots de hinder som finns, att lärares driv och engagemang kan vara avgörande för om utomhuspedagogiken blir av eller inte. 

The purpose of the study is to contribute knowledge about why some teachers choose to conduct outdoor education while others do not. The study has two questions, one of which concerns what teachers in primary school year 4–6 see as opportunities and obstacles with outdoor education. The second question concerns the significance of the geographical location and resources of the place of outdoor education in teaching, within science. The study is based on a socio-cultural perspective with elements of pragmatism where learning takes place in a context and where language has a significant role. The study has been carried out through qualitative semi-structured interviews, where six certified primary school teachers with a focus on science have been interviewed. The data collected has been colour-coded and categorized based on emerging themes. The results show that teachers in year 4–6 want to conduct more outdoor education than they currently do. All the teachers in the study see several possibilities with outdoor education, where knowledge acquisition, connection to the reality, inclusion and sensory experiences are some of those that emerge in the results. Despite this, most of the teachers in the study, do not practice outdoor education enough. The teachers in the study believe that there are several obstacles that stand in the way of outdoor education being able to take a greater place in today's primary schools. Access to the local environment is highlighted as a good prerequisite for outdoor education to be applied, but also as an obstacle if the school is in a place where access to nature is limited. Lack of available teachers, risk factors, the time aspect and pupils' clothing are other obstacles highlighted in the results. All in all, all the teachers in the study have a positive attitude towards outdoor education and believe, despite the obstacles that exist, that teachers' drive and commitment can be decisive for whether outdoor education takes place or not.
