Abstract [sv]

Antalet undersökningar av magnetresonanstomografi har fördubblats de senaste åren. Detta delvis på grund av att tekniken inte använder joniserande strålning men även för att detaljrika bilder kan framställas. Magnetresonanstomografi betraktades i många år som en kontraindicerad undersökning för patienter med pacemaker eller implanterbar defibrillator. Syftet med detta examensarbete var att studera risker hos patienter med pacemaker och implanterbar defibrillator i samband med MR-undersökningar, samt identifiera säkerhetsaspekter. Studiedesign var en systematisk litteraturöversikt. Det innebär att arbetet utfördes i strukturerade och tydliga steg som innefattade sökning, granskning och sammanställning av litteratur. Litteratur som bedömdes att vara relevant för syftet granskades enligt kvalitetsgranskningsmall. Nio vetenskapliga artiklar inkluderade i resultatet. Olika metoder tillämpades i dessa artiklar för att undersöka och utvärdera uppkomst av möjliga risker men även tillämpning av säkerhetsaspekter för att minimera dessa risker. Resultatet visade att patienter med pacemaker eller implanterbar defibrillator kan genomgå en MR-undersökning med låg risk om säkerhetsaspekter följas. 

Abstract [en]

The use of magnetic resonance imaging scans has increased in recent years. This is partly due to the fact that the magnetic resonance imaging is a noninvasive modality, but also because of its high spatial resolution. For many years, magnetic resonance imaging was considered as a contraindicated modality for patients with pacemaker or implantable cardiac defibrillator. The purpose of this thesis was to determine risks associated with performing magnetic resonance imaging in patients with pacemaker or implantable cardiac defibrillator and identifying safety precautions. The study method was conducted as a systematic literature review, which involved structured steps including searching, reviewing, and summarizing scholarly literature. Quality review template was used for the quality assessment of scholarly literature. The result included nine scholarly literatures. Different methods were used in these scholarly literatures to investigate and evaluate the potential risks and safety precautions. The results showed that patients with pacemaker or implantable cardiac defibrillator can undergo magnetic resonance imaging scans with low clinical risk if safety precautions are followed.
