Background: Some organizations in highly organized societies such as Sweden are volunteer driven, with volunteer work even being conducted at management levels. However, there is little research on how these organizations maintain the institution given they are volunteers.

Purpose:The goal of this study was to identify existing practices of institutional maintenance within a volunteer driven community based sports organization.

Method: Single-case study approach, 6 interviews analyzed through case study approach, 4 of which are volunteers at every level of the organization, 2 are external representing the Swedish league and the other being a current member. Documentation and field research was also collected.

Conclusion:Our findings suggest that the organization studied exhibit strong levels of volunteer conformity along established structures to improve volunteer engagement, recruitment and retention.
