Abstract [sv]

Manuell sökning gjordes i referenslistor samtgrå litteratur inhämtades.

Abstract [en]

Abstract

Background: ASD causes difficulties with social interactions affecting participation inschool. The study highlights occupational therapy interventions that are commonly practicedin school environments, to enable increased participation. Aim: To describe occupationaltherapy interventions that aim to enable participation in students with ASD in school.Method: Scoping review. Data collection through searches in databases: Psychinfo, Cinahl,Pubmed and Medline, manual search in references and gray literature were included. Analysiswas performed with thematic analysis. Results: The results revealed two main categories withsix and four subcategories each. The main categories were "Increased participation in schoolthrough changed behavior" and "Increased participation through engagement in activities".Conclusions: In school setting, the interventions, regardless of orientation, were focused onimproving sensory processing difficulties or social skills. However, no articles evaluated2results from larger intervention groups. Increased participation can include children with ASDto a greater extent throughout school.Implications: To promote inclusion and learning, the authors find that the exploration ofinterventions leads to the possibility for occupational therapists to increase participation instudents with ASD. Highlighting the need for adapted teaching, support structures andprofessional development for teachers and staff leads to a more inclusive environment forpupils in school and society.
