While there has been much research into drivers and barriers of sustainable procurement in large organisations, limited attention has been paid to SMEs in general and no previous research on SMEs in Nigeria has been found. In Sweden, and globally, the research focus has been on the impact of sustainability measures in- and outside of procurement on firm performance, without examining the underlying reasons for the low uptake of sustainable procurement practices in SMEs.
