Den kvalitativa studien undersöker kommentarsfältet under J.D. Vances inlägg på plattformen X. Vance skriver i inlägget att presidenten Joe Bidens retorik är orsaken till att mordförsöket på Donald Trump i Pennsylvania ägde rum. Studien syftar till att undersöka attityderna i kommentarsfältet och mönster av polarisering, samt avslöja hur Vances retorik mottagits av potentiella amerikanska väljare. I studien samlas materialet in med hjälp av insamlingsmetoden netnografi, och analyseras sedan med hjälp av en tematisk analys och den hermeneutiska cirkeln. Det empiriska materialet består av 400 kommentarer som samlats in i kronologisk ordning, vilka sedan har blivit uppdelade i sex huvudteman. Med hjälp av begrepp som ekokammare, flockbeteende och deltagarkultur förklaras attityderna i kommentarsfältet. Resultatet visar att en majoritet har använt kommentarsfältet för att argumentera mot och kritisera J.D. Vance. Det finns även tydliga mönster av polarisering och en stor variation av ämnen och frågor som diskuteras utöver det Vance skriver. Resultatet indikerar att Vances uttalande har fått en negativ reaktion från användare på plattformen. 

This qualitative study examines the comments section of J.D. Vance's post on the X platform. Vance writes in the post that President Joe Biden's rhetoric is the reason why the assassination attempt on Donald Trump in Pennsylvania took place. The study aims to examine attitudes in the comments section and patterns of polarization, as well as reveal how Vance's rhetoric was received by potential American voters. In the study, the material is collected using the netnography collection method and then analyzed using a thematic analysis and the hermeneutic circle. The empirical material consists of 400 comments collected in chronological order, which have then been divided into six main themes. Using concepts such as echo chamber, herd behavior and participatory culture the attitudes in the comments section are explained. The results show that a majority have used the comments section to argue against and criticize J.D. Vance. There are also clear patterns of polarization, and a wide variety of topics and issues discussed beyond what Vance writes. The results indicate that Vance's statement has received a negative reaction from users on the platform.
