Abstract [en]

Background: Financial Literacy is an important aspect of life nowadays. Financial Literacy is helping people with different tasks, that includes daily tasks and professional tasks. Product Managers are working with different stages of their departments’ product, which includes planning the budget, calculating budget, and calculating risks. Additionally, Product Managers are facing tasks that include making a decision that influences products in different ways. This study is trying to connect Financial Literacy with risk in decision-making through the connection of Knowledge-Sharing, via communication and internal support.

Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to explore the impact of Financial Literacy on Product Manager’s in Swedish technological companies, specifically investigating how Financial Literacy influences their willingness to take risky decisions. In addition, the thesis investigates the internal support that companies provide to assist Product Managers in making financial decisions.

Method: An explorative qualitative study on the technological firms in Sweden was conducted. The total number of the interviewees was nine, with the background of seven firms. Semi-structured interviews were created with open and closed questions that would have a follow-up question after them. After this the qualitative data was analysed and a thematic analysis was used to connect it to the literature.

Conclusion: The results show that depending on the company structure and the internal support that companies provide, Financial Literacy is a useful skill for Product Managers to have. If a company, however, builds their internal support systems and decision-making structure around Product Managers mostly having technical skills, Financial Literacy does not have any impact on the decisions being made.
