För att kunna synliggöra elevers olika förmågor och ge alla elever möjlighet att lyckas behöver lärares undervisnings- och bedömningspraktiker göras varierade, vilket geografiämnet skapar goda förutsättningar för. Ändå tenderar förekomsten av summativa praktiska bedömningsformer att minska samtidigt som andelen skriftliga prov ökar, och behovet av att utveckla lärares kompetens vid summativa bedömningar i geografi är stort. Syftet med studien är därför att undersöka hur lärare i årskurs 4–6 beskriver sin summativa bedömningspraktik i geografi. Studien bygger på kvalitativa, semi-strukturerade intervjuer med fem behöriga geografilärare i årskurs 4–6. Datamaterialet har analyserats tematiskt utifrån diskursteori. Resultatet visar att geografilärare upplever en svårighet i att tolka betygskriteriernas nivåer samtidigt som möjligheten till kompetensutvecklande arbete och kollegialt utbyte inom geografi är begränsat. Geografiämnet och summativa bedömningar i geografi för årskurs 4–6 behöver därför lyftas fram på agendan – i skolans dagliga praktik, i lärarutbildningar såväl som i forskning.

Abstract [en]

To make students' various abilities visible and provide all students with the opportunity to succeed, teachers' teaching and assessment practices need to be varied, a condition well supported by the subject of geography. However, there is a tendency for the use of summative practical assessments to decrease, while the proportion of written tests increases, highlighting a significant need to develop teachers' competence in summative assessments in geography. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate how teachers in grades 4–6 describe their summative assessment practices in geography for pupils in grades 4–6. The study is based on qualitative, semi-structured interviews with five qualified geography teachers in grades 4–6. The data material has been thematically analyzed based on discourse theory. The results show that geography teachers experience difficulties in interpreting the levels of assessment criteria. At the same time, opportunities for professional learning and development within geography are limited. Therefore, the subject of geography and summative assessments in geography for grades 4–6 need to be highlighted – in daily school practice, in teacher training as well as in research.
