Occupational therapists' experiences of workingwith lifestyle habits (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Introduction: Unhealthy lifestyles increase the risk of several diseases and are a global threat to public health. Lifestyle habits are expressed in everyday life and occupational therapists should therefore have an important role in this work, Yet, their involvement remains limited, and there is a lack of research in the area Aim: The aim was to describe occupational therapists' experiences of working with lifestyle habits. Method: Based on a qualitative method with an inductive approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with ten occupational therapists. A content analysis was applied. Results: The overall theme of Lifestyle habits as a natural part of everyday life emerges and three categories; Everyday occupations to support change, Conversations about lifestyle habits – less sensitive than expected, and Sufficient knowledge with the support of the team. Conclusion: Lifestyle habits are perceived as a natural part of everyday life and are integrated into the occupational therapists' daily work rather than being carried out as a separate effort. The occupational therapists offer support in how  lifestyle habits can be implemented in everyday life. Significance: The results highlight the occupational therapist role and occupational perspective when working with lifestyle habits.
