Tillgången till digitala medel såsom smarttelefoner och sociala medier har blivit en central del i utvecklingen av dagens samhälle och en del av de flesta människors vardag. Dock har den digitala utvecklingen även inneburit utveckling och möjliggörande för en ny typ av våld: digitalt våld. Denna studie syftar till att undersöka hur yrkesverksamma inom socialtjänsten bemöter och arbetar med kvinnor som utsätts för digitalt våld av män i nära relation. Studien har en kvalitativ metodansats och empirin har samlats in genom sex semistrukturerade intervjuer med yrkesverksamma inom socialtjänsten. Empirin från intervjuerna har sedan analyserats utifrån en tematisk analys där följande huvudteman har identifierats: ”Mäns våld mot kvinnor - ett komplext fenomen”, ”Digitala medel en del av vår samtid”, ”Våld som en process” och ”Standardisering vs. handlingsutrymme”. Resultatet har analyserats med stöd i teorier om handlingsutrymme, normaliseringsprocessen, coercive control och uppbrottsprocessen. Resultatet av studien visar att yrkesverksamma inom socialtjänsten ser digitalt våld som en del av en process där kvinnan systematiskt blir utsatt för våld av mannen. Studien visar även att handläggare nyttjar sin egen kunskap och kompetens för att göra individuella bedömningar utifrån den enskildes behov. Här är standardiserade instrument vanliga arbetsmetoder, men har behov av utveckling och bör därav användas i kombination med handläggarens bedömning. Resultatet belyser även det centrala behovet av kunskapsutveckling kring digitalt våld. Studien bidrar till att belysa våldets olika processer, dess konsekvenser och framtida behov på området.

Access to digital means such as smartphones and social media has become a central part of the development of today’s society and is a part of most people's everyday lives. However, digital development has also entailed the emergence and enabling of a new form of violence: technology-based violence. This study aims to examine how professionals within social services respond to and work with women who are subjected to digital violence by men in close relationships. The study has a qualitative methodological approach, and the empirical data has been collected through six semi-structured interviews with professionals within social services. The data from the interviews has then been analyzed through a thematic analysis, where the following main themes have been identified: “Men’s violence against women, a complex phenomenon”, “Digital means as part of our contemporary society”, “Violence as a process” and “Standardization vs. professional discretion”. The results have been analyzed with the support of theories on professional discretion, the normalization process, coercive control, and the process of leaving. The results of the study show that professionals within social services view digital violence as part of a process in which the woman is systematically subjected to violence by the man. The study also shows that caseworkers use their own knowledge and competence to make individual assessments based on the needs of the individual. Standardized instruments are commonly used working methods, but they are in need of development and should therefore be used in combination with the caseworker’s professional judgement. The results also highlight the central need for knowledge development regarding digital violence. The study contributes to highlighting the different processes of violence, its consequences, and future needs in the field.
