Analysis and improvement of internal material flow - at Proton Finishing Stans 8 (English)
Abstract [en]
This thesis was conducted at Proton Finishing Stans 8 with the purpose of identifying weaknesses and proposing improvements in the internal material flow. The study applied both qualitative and quantitative methods, including observations, interviews, time studies, document collection, in combination with the analytical tools flow diagram, spaghetti diagram, value stream mapping, and the DuPont model. The analysis of the current state revealed four main root causes: inefficient flow in goods reception, inconsistent use of the QR code system, unclear procedures for handling pallets in the buffer and preparation area and deficiencies in the information flow. These issues were linked to extended lead times, increased risk of handling errors, and high personnel costs. Improvement proposals include merging goods reception and arrival inspection, reintroducing and standardizing the QR code system, implementing a visual FIFO system, and adding delivery information to packing slips. The results suggest that simple, targeted measures can improve material flow efficiency. While the methods used are broadly applicable to industrial operations, the proposed solutions are particularly relevant for companies facing similar challenges to those identified at Stans 8.
