This study was conducted with the aim of analyzing and improving the tool & die changingprocess in two mechanical presses at Presso AB. Presso is a Swedish subcontractor located inSkillingaryd, where most of the work took place. By mapping the current state, identifyingexisting issues, and proposing concrete improvements, the objective was mainly to reducesetup time. Shorter setup time increases production capacity and improves flexibility inmanufacturing. The background to this work lies in shifting market demands, which require ahigher degree of product customization. This trend leads to smaller batch sizes, making setuptimes more significant than before. The study addressed three central research questions: how the current tool changing processis structured, what improvement opportunities can be identified, and how the workflow canbe organized to simplify the process. Through observations, data collection, and dialogue adetailed description of current process was created and analyzed to develop suitableimprovements. Based on identified issues, both short- and long-term recommendations werepresented and even some organizational factors that influence the outcome of the study werealso highlighted. The discussion emphasizes the importance of improvements that lead to simpler, safer, andmore standardized workflow. These improvements not only reduce setup times but alsocontribute to a better working environment and reduce variation in both time and processoutcome. At the same time, it is acknowledged that additional observations could haveprovided more data and allowed for more accurate calculations of profitability and theoreticaltime savings, even though the proposed improvements are logically sound and aligned withestablished industrial practices.
