Abstract [en]
This research investigates the key requirements needed to develop a securityapplication with the objective of encouraging adoption for non-technical users. Italso aims to minimize the gap between security knowledge and adaptive behavior. It addresses a common but often overlooked security risk created by weak orcommonly used passwords on network devices. The study follows a Design Science Research methodology, using a digital surveyto gather user requirements, as well as pre-test and post-test surveys to gain adeeper understanding of security practices. The usability tests evaluation wereexamined through UTAUT2 to determine the effectiveness of the application.Along with applying Fogg’s Behavior Model to examine specific triggers andmotivations required to trigger the desired security-related behaviors in theapplication. The findings reveal a gap between the theoretical understanding of security andits practical application. Although participants in the usability tests demon-strated awareness of basic security principles, this knowledge did not consistentlytranslate into secure behaviors. The results of this research gives insight into howsecurity applications could be designed to promote adoption among non-expertusers.
