Dental hygienists' experience of organizational and social work environment in private dental care (English)
Abstract [sv]

undersöka hur tandhygienister verksamma inom privat tandvård i Sverige

upplever sin organisatoriska och sociala arbetsmiljö. Metod: En webbaserad

Enkäten innehöll påståenden hämtade från Work Experience Measurement Scale

och Salutogenic Health Indicator Scale. Deltagarna skattade sina upplevelser på

en sexgradig skala samt besvarade bakgrundsfrågor. Resultat: Signifikanta

Abstract [en]

Introduction: The organizational and social work environment is of great

importance for dental hygienists' health, well-being and job satisfaction. A poor

work environment can contribute to increased stress, lower engagement and an

increased risk of sick leave. Previous research has highlighted the importance of

using a salutogenic perspective, where the focus is on strengthening the

individual's resources and conditions rather than simply reducing risk factors.

Aim: The purpose of the study was to investigate how dental hygienists working

in private dental care in Sweden experience their organizational and social work

environment. Method: A web-based survey was distributed to 148 dental

hygienists in a private dental practice. The survey included statements taken from

the Work Experience Measurement Scale and the Salutogenic Health Indicator

Scale. Participants rated their experiences on a six-point scale and answered

background questions. Results: Significant correlations were noted between age,

number of years in the profession and years at current workplace and the

dimensions inner experience and self-determination. All p-values <0.05.

Conclusions: Dental hygienists in private dental care in Sweden rated their

organizational and social work environment as generally good. Self-determination

and supportive working conditions were emphasized as central factors.

Significance: The results can be used as a basis for efforts to promote a

sustainable work environment in dentistry.
