The value of AI-implementation for recruitment agencies : A qualitative study with a purpose of understanding the underlying incentives behind AI-implementation in recruitment agencies in the Jönköping region (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly evolving and is increasingly integrating into the operational processes of recruitment agencies. These organisations face mounting pressure to increase the efficiency and accuracy of their recruitment processes. As a result of this, many recruitment agencies have begun implementing AI technologies within their workflows. Despite the significant progress, there remains a lack of a deeper understanding of the underlying incentives that drive AI-implementation in the recruitment sector.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore and understand why recruitment agencies choose to implement AI into their operations.

Method: The study applies an abductive approach combined with a qualitative research strategy. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews, and the empirical data was analyzed using thematic analysis. The analysis was theoretically supported by Ulrich ́s HR-model and Herzberg ́s two factor theory. The study concludes with a summarizing model that illustrates and connects all parts of the study, ultimately leading up to the result.

Result: The study finds that AI-implementation is both driven by monetary incentives, such as cost reduction, process efficiency and non-monetary incentives, including transparency and ethical considerations, employee involvement, organizational pride and enhanced employer branding. The value of AI lies not only in measurable outcomes but also in perceived improvements to candidate experience and working environment. Additionally increased recruitment accuracy and strengthened competitiveness emerge as key incentives for AI implementation among recruitment agencies operation in the Jönköping region.
