Possibilities and challenges of peer respons in writing : A qualitative study on Swedish teachers’ perceptions of peer response in grades 4-6 (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The study highlights the possibilities and challenges of peer response in writing among students in grades 4–6. The aim is to contribute knowledge about teachers’ experiences with peer response, as well as the challenges and possibilities they associate with this method. The study is grounded in a sociocultural perspective. To address the research questions, individual qualitative interviews were conducted, and the data was analyzed using a thematic analysis. The results show clearly that teachers perceive both opportunities and challenges in using peer response. They observe that students among other things develop their writing skills and engagement during lessons. However, they also note the learning curve involved in giving and receiving response. A challenge identified in the study is the difficulty teachers face in creating effective peer pairings that allow both students to grow. Despite the various challenges they encounter, the teachers wish to work more with peer response in the future.
