Barn och unga spenderar en allt större del av sin tid på digitala kanaler vilket har lett till att sexuellt våld online blivit ett växande problem. En majoritet av kontakter inför sexuell exploatering av barn och unga sker även den online. Trots insatser för att skydda barn och unga mot sexuella övergrepp och sexuell exploatering kvarstår många utmaningar i arbetet. Genom en kvalitativ intervjustudie med yrkesverksamma inom socialtjänst och skola undersöks hur socialsekreterare, fältsekreterare och skolkuratorer arbetar för att förebygga och hantera sexuellt våld och sexuell exploatering av barn och unga online. En tematisk analys har gjorts på materialet och fyra teman framträder; känsla av skam och skuld, förskjutna gränser, bristen på stöd för kompetensutveckling samt behovet av material och förebyggande arbete. Resultatet analyseras utifrån Goffmans (2020) teori om stigma, skamteori samt tidigare forskning inom ämnet. Resultatet visar på flertalet försvårande faktorer för identifiering av utsatta barn och unga samt förbättringsområden gällande kompetensutveckling för yrkesverksamma och användning av strukturerat material. Studien synliggör ett behov av ökad samordning, resurstilldelning och kunskapsfördjupning för att säkerställa att barn och unga får det skydd de har rätt till – och att någon tar ansvar för att ställa frågan.

Children and young people are spending an increasing amount of time on digital platforms, which has contributed to the growing problem of online sexual abuse. A majority of contacts leading to sexual exploitation of children and adolescents also occur online. Despite various efforts to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation, many challenges remain. This qualitative interview study explores how social workers, outreach workers, and school counsellors within social services and schools work to prevent and address online sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children and young people. A thematic analysis was conducted, resulting in four main themes: feelings of shame and guilt, shifting boundaries, lack of support for professional development, and the need for materials and preventative efforts. The findings are analysed using Goffman’s (2020) theory of stigma, shame theory, and previous research in the field. The results highlight several obstacles to identifying children and young people who have been subjected to abuse, as well as areas for improvement concerning professional development and the use of structured tools and material. The study highlights a need for increased coordination, resource allocation, and knowledge development to ensure that children and young people receive the protection they are entitled to – and that someone takes responsibility for asking the question.
