Construction of Equipment to Study the Influence of Humidity on Vacuum Solidification of Aluminum (English)
Abstract [sv]

This bachelor thesis was conducted in collaboration with Bryne AB and focuses on developing an experimental method and associated test equipment to investigate the influence of humidity on porosity formation during vacuum solidification of aluminium. The study addresses a significant knowledge gap in the casting industry, where the specific effects of humidity under vacuum conditions remain insufficiently explored, despite their impact on product quality and production costs. The work is based on three central research questions: how parameters of the nozzle affect humidity in the vacuum chamber, how humidity influences porosity in molten aluminium, and what technical and ergonomic requirements must be considered for the safe and efficient integration of the nozzle in an industrial environment. The project included literature studies, needs analysis, experimental trials, and systematic concept development, resulting in a validated test method and a tailored design solution. The findings provide valuable insights for improving aluminium casting processes with high quality demands and may serve as a foundation for further industrial application.
