Transition from BSAB to CoClass : A Deep Dive into the Connection to BIM and AMA (English)
Abstract [en]

Introduction: The purpose of the work is to investigate and understand the connection between CoClass, AMA and CAD in order to subsequently be able to optimize information management within the construction industry. The work will be supported by the product manager at the company Svensk Byggtjänst, which produced CoClass.

Method: A literature review was carried out to gain a broader knowledge of the subject and to obtain a good scientific basis based on the subject. Three interviews have been conducted, two of the respondents work at a Swedish construction service and have been involved in developing CoClass. A document analysis was carried out based on the standards on which CoClass is based. Then, two practical tests were conducted based on collected theories. Codes from the production results table (AMA codes) in CoClass were encoded in the Revit software. The selection of components was the same in both tests in CoClass and Revit.

Results: It is possible to link AMA to BIM modules using CoClass by utilizing the production results table, which is connected to the technical AMA. These codes are manually entered into BIM models, as demonstrated in Test 2. The transition from BSAB 96 to CoClass has been slow due to lack of demand and adaptation difficulties within the construction industry. The transition from BSAB codes to CoClass can be done relatively smoothly because it is easy to implement classification in existing CAD software. The integration of CoClass and BIM also offers a structured and efficient method to meet the requirements for life cycle analyzes from both laws and customers in the construction industry.

Analysis: The use of AMA codes in CAD software with the help of CoClass, as demonstrated in the tests, shows that users can more clearly identify and define objects in their models. This can reduce incorrect information and promote a unified understanding of the coding system within the industry. Future development of the integration focuses on making the process even smoother by enabling AMA integration to be directly accessible within CAD software. This would eliminate the need for manual code entry and further simplify the user experience. To overcome the slow transition from BSAB 96 to CoClass, support and commitment from organizational leadership are required.

Discussion: The high validity of the study is reinforced by triangulation and interviews with respondents who produced CoClass. Future research can focus on exploring the integration of CoClass and BIM more thoroughly through access to licenses from the Swedish Construction Service. It is also possible to include more perspectives from different players in the construction industry.

Abstract [sv]

Man matar in dessa koder manuellt i BIM modeller såsom test 2 visar.
