Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
This thesis examines how people with neuropsychiatric disabilities experience their everyday lives and the obstacles they encounter in school, work and society. Through reflective thematic analysis of eight autobiographies, themes are identified such as the feeling of not fitting in and the need for adaptations in order to feel included.
The aim is to highlight how people with NPD describe their experiences and the role that understanding, support and adaptations play in their mental health and life situation. It also highlights the consequences that a lack of support and high demands can have on their mental health and life situation. The study highlights a knowledge gap in previous research on how everyday obstacles affect mental health and social belonging among people with neuropsychiatric disabilities.
The theoretical starting point is scaffolding and stigma theory, which emphasise the need for individualised support and how negative perceptions affect people with different characteristics. The study shows that despite statutory rights, there is often a lack of adequate adaptations, which can lead to mental health and social exclusion. The study highlights the importance of early, individually tailored support measures and increased awareness of invisible diagnoses. The conclusion is that inclusive environments require both knowledge and a willingness to change in order to promote social participation and mental well-being.
