Abstract [en]

The aim of this thesis is to determine how responsibility for sustainability is framed in NGO communication and whether gender plays a role in this framing. The following research question was asked: ‘How is responsibility for sustainability framed in NGO communication and what role does gender play in this framing?’ A qualitative content analysis was carried out to answer the research question. For this analysis five categories are deductively conducted from the literature and later inductively further developed within the selected material. The evaluation of the qualitative content analysis shows that gender does not always play a role for framing responsibility. The responsibility for sustainability is primarily individualised within the selective material and structural causes remain hidden. The material of the thesis consists of four NGOs: Welthungerhilfe (WHH), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) and Our Seas Our Future (OSOF).
