This report is about a basic survey of the electronics retailer Nedis AB warehouse activities. With literature studies and the survey as a foundation, improvements are proposed on how Nedis AB can change their warehousing to the better. Nedis is a B2B company that sells electronic accessories and spare parts. Their warehouse is just outside Jönköping, in Torsvik. They have gone through an expansive phase during the last couple of years and have had a large turnover of the stock keeping units (SKU), where they have gone from selling mostly small electronic spare parts to becoming a competitor on the electronic accessories market. Nedis AB have an aged IT-system that is controlled from Holland and that is the reason why the balance of some SKU: s don´t show the correct information. To come clear with this problem until something more incremental happens, the receiving department has to improve so that it can manage all the goods coming in. When the receiving department works properly the rest of the warehouse´s operations automatically work better. The goal with the project is to give proposals on how they can improve the efficiency and flow throughout all the warehousing processes, all the way from the arrival of goods until it leaves. That comprise to description how the company works and how their processes flow in regard of today’s situation. From that information, the mission is to give proposals on how the warehousing activities can be improved. The project started off with a week of participating observation that resulted in a description of today’s situation in the company. Then a time study was made. The purpose of this was to see how much time it took to perform work that didn’t create any value and also to see where to lay the focus in the improvement process. The result of the study showed that over 7 of 17 order picking operations, there were disturbances that didn’t create value. These disturbances illustrated the fact that the warehouse balance of some SKU: s didn´t show the correct information. The time study also showed that the relation between order picking and packing was 60/40. To make changes with help of lean thinking principles is a way to get the warehouse more competitive. To make some effort with continuous improvements, strive for perfection, listen to the people in the organization, battle waste/muda and create a balanced flow are some of the methods that are suggested.
